What is a B Corp and why do they matter?

Wednesday 26 May 2021 at 14:00 to 15:30

Certified B Corps are a business that balances purpose and profit. In order to gain certification, they are required to consider the impact of their decisions on their workers, customers, suppliers, community, and the environment. Bristol is home to several B Corps, including Triodos Bank, Neighbourly and Sawdays.

In this free online session, Andy Hawkins – a Bristol based consultant – will give an overview of the B Corp movement and how it’s catalysing companies to be a force for good. He will highlight why this is needed and how it can enhance a company’s purpose. In response, Dr Malu Villela from the School of Management, who has done research on B Corps in Brazil, will respond to the B Corp movement’s claims in a constructively critical way. She will reflect on how and whether mission-led businesses can further pursue the route of becoming ‘a force for good’.

The session will be chaired by Professor Martin Parker, lead for the Inclusive Economy Initiative at the University of Bristol.

The Zoom link will be sent to attendees two days before the webinar.
